Wat OS are u running?Slowing of laptop can be because of various other reasons like too many programs starting up at start up.Try this first and then think of adding RAM.

To stop more programs starting at start up do the following-

start->run->msconfig->Startup tab and uncheck which programs u dont want to start at beginning and click apply and restart. You would see a dramatic decrease in slow running. At booting back u would be displayed some msg, check the box and click ok.

caution-dont disable antivirus and security softwares, others u can do as u wish.

Even if u add a new RAM along with Ur old RAM it should be 333Mhz only then only it will perform well in synchronization.

fix or reload? there's a large diff. in case you purely prefer to do a gadget fix you may goto start up,***, gadget approaches and fix. in case you want to reload, in the time of boot have the os disk interior the cd force and press R yet some new pc have a fix partition already outfitted in.
