Do we choose our own name and/or our own physical appearance before we are reincarnated?

The general consensus of Reincarnationists whom I know is that you 'choose' certain things about your life, such as your family and general background, according to what you want to accomplish in that lifetime.

Many of the choices you make will concern challenges you want to overcome in the life ahead.

You can try to plan your next lifetime from here, but in a way that's a little like trying to draw a picture in the dark. You can't see all that you need to see, to make all those choices. It's only when you are your *whole self* in the eternal sense that you are able to sense your past history of lifetimes, and make judgments about what you want or need in future lives.

From the perspective of being aware of your complete being, superficial preferences such as hair and eye color wouldn't be especially important to you - unless it served some purpose which would be of benefit to you. But bonds you make in this lifetime can continue if you want them to. And that's a very important part about living: loving and being loved. Other things you may choose later on to leave behind - but love you can bring with you into the next life.

There is a truth in reincarnation but not in the way u think dear..u must have heard of proof for rebirth when listening to stories of children who recite their past lives..and that must ve made u find a way to muse abt this..Well, u must have seen lot of people with various disabilities and may be some with ugly appearances (not hurting anyone pls..ok?)..according to ur theory d u think they have planned before to be like that?? Simply..'-no' ..You re having an innocent thought but according to the philosophy which i believe there is very big hidden truth and a seriousness behind this..I'm a Buddhist..(a religion+philosophy with lot of theories accepted by scientists and psychologists)..According to our theory, the rebirth is a sorrow..You can see it when observing ur present life itself ..do u ever have permanent joys? i mean, which everlasting and never fades?? well just question out..sometimes it may seem to be 'yes' but, serious thinking may help for the correct answer- 'no'..Buddhism teaches the way to eternal glory..(nirvana) { refer to the word if needed as it is complicated} and that is something like 'enlightenment' which Buddha got where there won't be a rebirth again after u die by attaining nirvana..and this is practical which seems to be impossible when u practice the hard way towards it..Well the simplest answer for ur main question is "no"..It's true when the soul of Buddha before he was to born as a child, searched for a place to born, mother, country, etc..but in his case it was special and his enlightenment was also planned..but rememb..it's not a planning like urs ok? Buddha even before his enlightenment was a very intelligent person whom was high in mental development than us who are so far away to that state and which the only way towards is meditation with high determination..Do not keep hopes..in ur case it is impossible..but at the point where ur mind is developed through meditation, the situation may change even up to some extent, but with different factors..We even do not chose our family to born into but the karma (the bad and good u do ) will do it for u..it will make out ur future gainings..And remember ur future lives can be of animal(reptile,birds etc.) form too. And also u must ve been in those forms in the past ok? Future lives are never to be decided by us when we are normal humans (without a development of spirituality) u can refer to Buddhism if u want more info..bt don' t think i'm spreading my religion where there aren't any missionary sects in Buddhism..I just wanted to help you in ur misunderstanding.. Since the age of flesh has less than 2 decades left, this would be my last time coming. I have finally discovered how to stop coming back. Be martyred for the Word of YAH and the confession that YAHUSHA is Messiah - that makes coming back stop, and rest start.

Your thoughts are quite interesting though - choosing the family. Never though of that.
