Trim Pump Issues. Losing Oil. Please Help.?
1994 Sea Ray 170 Bow Rider, 3.0L 115HP 4 cyl, Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen II out drive, Oildyne/Sensodyne old style trim pump. 165 hours on boat since new. When you are actively working the engine, pulling tubers and skiers, the trim pump will blow oil out the vent hole on the fill lid covering the bilge and draining the pump sump a little at a time every time you trim down against the stop. Per the shop manuel, the limit switch is set at ram extension of 6-1/2" .Does anyone know how to fix this and provide details please.
I filled the pump up with the lower unit trimmed down. When you cycle the pump it cycles fine. If you get against the stop in the down position, it blows oil out the vent hole. I have emptyed the resevoir on more than one occasion while pulling skiers. Besides being a fire hazard, it makes a mess that i dont want. So any suggestions are appreciated.

are you sure it's not just over full. best i remember that unit should be filled with the drive down.if you are filling it with the drive up,the fluid has no place to go but out the vent as you trim the drive down.++++++++++++edit+++++++++++++almost has to be a problem in the valve body in the pump, altho i have never seen that problem with the drive all the way down against the stop, even if it leaks down on it's own due to a leaking check ball in the valve body.possibly as you slow down to pick up a fallen skier the water pressure against the drive is able to overcome the leaking check valve and extend the rams somewhat.when you hit the throttle to pop the skier up, the pressure on the rams force the fluid back into the reservoir at an accelerated rate. good luck with this one!

Hi there, ok, so from my reviews I have collected this. Usually, pontiac bonnevilles have a tendency to be extra trustworthy then sebrings, (sebrings are identified for alot of electric disorders, peculiarly as ancient age approches. Bonnevilles generally tend to stick in combination, and can defiently final for extra mileage. If it was once as much as me, I could probaly opt for the bonneville. They simply have much less issues. I do like each vehicles, and im now not pronouncing that the sebring is dangerous, it simply has extra of a difference for electric screw ups So yea, the ones are my ideas.
