Am I supposed to tip the air-conditioning repairman?
I always thought that it wasn't necessary esp. when talking about expensive repairs like A/C or plumbing. But, someone at work told me that I need to tip them. What do you think?

No.
I do all types of maintenance and never expect a tip.
He should be getting paid descent enough to not need a tip.

No. Tipping is not necessary. My husband did A/C repair for many years when he was younger and he always appreciated a cold glass of water or tea. Another thing you might want to offer anyone working in your home is the use of your bathroom. These people often work for hours in a home and most won't ask to use the facilities, but you know they must need to go, especially after you offer them something cold to drink.
