I removed the Windows XP Recovery virus and fixed most issues, Office freezes after a few hours now?
I used every malware sweeper known to man and removed the virus. Restored the hidden files, access to the Task Manager, the Desktop icons, etc. Now MS Office will periodically start to run slow. I remedy this by killing the WINWORD.EXE process and it works fine for a little while, but then all office programs start to freeze again after a while. Could the WINWORD.EXE file be corrupt or could it be something else.
I would appreciate ANY input.
Thank you! I also read online that deleting the normal.dat file could help. The most likely thing is I might have to reinstall Office (since all office programs freeze). It's too impractical to reinstall windows because this isn't a personal computer, but a work laptop.

It could be winword.exe as a damaged file (from the virus) or other parts of the system could be damaged causing word to not behave correctly. My advice is in 2 parts. Your best bet is to reinstall the operating system and start from scratch. If you don't want to do that then you can reinstall word that should solve the issue.
to reinstall xp look here..
http://www.windowsxpprofessional.windowsreinstall....
that webpage has screen shots step by step on what to do. (Pictures)
my best advice if you do this is to make sure everything els works after-words..
best way to do this is to go to the manufactures website (dell.com) (Hp.com) (gateway.com)
and go under support and look for "your computer model" they will have all the files you need
to get your "sound, video, network card" back up and running so that way its all working again
xp will find "some" of your hardware but in my experience it doesn't always find all of it.
those files that make the hardware work are called "drivers" so if you see that term on the hp or dell website that's exactly what you need. put those on a thumb drive before wiping the system.
most important one to get is the network card drivers so your Internet is up and running
after you reinstall.
any more questions on this feel free to ask!
