Can I go swimming while wearing contact lenses?

If I wear my lenses (Acuvue Oasis with Hydraclear Plus) while swimming (eyes closed in a chlorinated pool), will my eyes/lenses be okay and unharmed?

As long as you keep your eyes closed, all will be OK. If you open your eyes, you risk the lens floating off your eye.

I've swum in my contacts for 40 years in the sea and pools. However since soft lenses came out I swim in dailies although normally I use fortnightlies. This is because there is an increased infection risk and its better to throw them away at the end of the day. This is agreed with my optiican by the way.

I've never had a problem with lenses swimming, they've never fallen out, or created any issues and I've swum in rough seas and snorkelled in them. Its one of those things for which lenses make a big difference. Just be careful on the infection front.

They will be unharmed but if you get water in your eyes, sometimes it might feel like they are going to fall out. Just rub your eye until it is positioned correctly

    Source(s): I wear contacts.
