Is this Racism or its just those unpleasant incidence that happens sometimes and you cant avoid?
I know not all in the UK are racist, i myself work for a massive brand in UK. I have a very respectable job and everyone in my company are so cool about me being an Indian. But today i went to an english Pub, i was at the counter and the guy standing besides me was staring at me. I ignored him but then there was very little room to get out and i had four glasses so thought of carrying two at a time. When i returned to collect the remaining two glasses there wasn't enough room to fetch those glasses so i had to ask that guy "could you pass me the glasses" but he denied in a very rude tone and kept staring at me. So the lady next to me who was with that guy looked at him and made him realised that it was very rude of him to do that, and then she passed me the glasses. Its one of those reasons because of which i don't go out, but the funny thing was that i was with a friend and Debbie, she is proper British! May be i forgot the PLEASE word but then i asked in a very polite tone also that guy and i had nothing personal but just within few seconds he left such a bad impression about himself. I mean why would someone behave so rude to others? I have so many british people around me and then everyone is so nice and speaking about India, i own a hotel back home and most of our clients are from west and our staff is so kind and polite to them, but i don't deny that there are some crack heads who make our guests from west realise that they don't belong to India. Then my question is why do people behave in such a rude way with each other? I know british ruled India for 150years and then there were some unpleasantries shared between the two countries in the past but cant we just forget the bad things and move on? World is getting smaller and we need to understand that we are humans and not animals to behave in such a way with each other. Well i don't have any bad feeling about that guy its just that it saddened me and i was really not expecting anything like this. Thanks for your time to read this, i look forward for your view on this topic, irrespective of the colour of your skin! :) Thanks!

I am also South Asian & born in the UK. However I am lucky to be born in an area of the UK (namely North Yorkshire) which is very multicultural & all races get along.
I do of course hear about racism from other areas of the UK, in areas such as Bristol which has a huge working class population, and they do nothing but really shock me; because I, nor my father, or his - has ever had to put up with that ever.
There are of course incidences where I too, will go into say like a pub and there will be some miserable bloke beside me. Whether that is because of the color of my skin, or they are just generally miserable people (like in the case you encountered) I am a lot of the time, unable to decipher - which makes it all the more very frustrating.
Unfortunately due to the unrest & political turmoil today, concerning Asians in the UK - particularly British lower class Mirpuri Pakistani's who do not want to adapt here, bring Sharia Law, and Anjem Choudhary constantly blared by the media - Asians are not held in the highest regard in the UK, as to a very subtle way to say the situation.
Looking of course; the same as most South Asians here are from the Northwest regions of India and look very similar to Pakistani's - we are generally put into the same boat as these people, despite differences in social structure, majority religions, general mindset etc etc.
People are to blame (more namely the underclass or working class are the most racist) - as not all South Asians look ethnic.
A lot of Pakistani's and actual Afghans (who in their mind are considered enemies before fellow humans) like Imran Khan Niazi are infact white in skin color, and do not look particularly ethnic at all.
Yet these racists will generalize anyone who is really dark brown skinned, so ironically it is these other Indians like Gujarati's who get the most racist the local dark 'Patel' corner-shop owner. So people are idiots for generalizing in the first place. Racists & ignorant people are always going to be there, especially amongst the under-class - it is dying out of course, but there will always be some idiots around. Just best to ignore them :)
