What to do when people stare?

I love my cowboy boots. My father gave them to me about a year and a half ago and I love wearing them. I think they look good especially when I'm wearing jeans. Anyways, they hate the fact that I wear them so much, which I don't understand. Apparently, they don't like the way I walk in them because they think it makes me look to "feminine," even though they already know I'm gay (not to display any stereotypes here; they still won't accept me after two and half years). And now it's nearly summer and I'm considering wearing the boots again. My mother said that "black people don't wear those in the summer time," which is clearly stereotypical and ignorant. I told her, "Well, I wear them." She also told me of how some people stare at me when I'm in public, whilst wearing the boots. What should I do about this-----the people staring at me in public and my parents, who hate it when I like to express this side of my identity?
