Fans of Monk, is this a glaring plot hole or not?

In the episode where Monk goes in search of a lost possession of Trudy's that was apparently stolen from a bank safe deposit box, at the end of the episode Monk, Natalie, Disher and Stottlemeyer are waiting in the bank vault for one of the employees to get a key to open the box where it is believed the bad guy stashed some of the stolen items (including Trudy's item) the employee was in on the robbery and locks them in the vault.

My question... why would monk go into the vault if he were afraid of enclosed spaces like back in the first season with the panic room and the monkey ?

i think it's because he loves trudy and he wanted justice for her.

    1. He was locked in the vault. I can't remember if he went in when it was open or if he was forced, but if he chose to go in when the door was wide open, that's more like going into a store, or even a small room in his own house.

    2. When he entered the panic room, he was fine as long as he believed there was no way he could be locked in.

    3. He would do just about anything if it was for or about Trudy.

^^^ He wasn't forced into the vault, he went in there looking for Trudy's braclet, that was very important to him.
