canon rebel EOS XSi ef-18-55is....novice question?

ok i dont know much at all about cameras, but i want a new one to mainly photograph my handmade baby items for my website, and also would love to take beautiful photos of my kids.i only have about $500 to spend. i was looking at this refurbished canon http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servle... experts what do ya think?

    That Canon is a good camera. For product photography you will need some extra items. A light tent (google diy light tent, there's plenty out there. A tripod would help as well. Ace has a point on calibrating a screen but even doing a custom whitebalance will already make a big difference. In any case you'd want a memory card and a protective baggie, a microfiber cloth and a rocket blower.

    The camera is adequate for what you need to do. However, you need some extra equipment if you want good product shots of your baby items. Save up at least an extra 300 dollars for a light tent, good basic lighting, and small tripod. Also, if you're planning on getting some very close shots of your items, such as details on buttons or fabric texture, then a macro lens would be a good future purchase.
