What is a Rose Brass Bell (trombone) and what are its characteristics?
I googled it but only found a bunch of different horns that have rose bells for sale.
Is there a common standard or definition for a rose brass bell? I have been led to believe it is brass with a higher proportion of copper, but exactly what (if that's correct at all)?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a rose brass bell?
I have heard lot of ideas but I'm looking for something authoritative.

It does darken the tone, but the metal is pretty soft. If you dent bells stay away from it. On the other hand I have repaired some rose brass bells and they are very easy to deal with. Yes, you are correct about the definition of it..... more copper. If it is on an instrument it is often sprayed with a little red in the lacquer... it doesn't really look all that different than brass. Some instruments appear to have a rose brass bell up to the first joint but in reality only the flair is rose brass and it is fixed to a regular brass throat and the whole thing is sprayed with the colored lacquer to give the effect.

Rose brass usually gives a warmer and darker tone. However since it has a higher concentration of copper it is a bit less durable. One would probably be more expensive than a yellow brass trombone.

They the two sound like brass, basically in distinctive ranges. besides the shown fact that, trumpet is the main recognizable. yet it quite is unquestionably no longer an extremely good reason to choose on one tool over the different. you may desire to attempt them the two and notice which you're superb acceptable for. individually, i like the trombone and usually locate trumpet too harsh.
