Is there a way to permanently disable or completely remove car mode/car panel on HTC Inspire 4G?

I've had my HTC Inspire 4G (running on Android 2.2) for about 2 months. It worked fine up until about 2 or 3 weeks ago when it started going into "Car Mode" or "Car Panel" by itself at random times. I'll exit car mode and a few seconds later it automatically goes right back to it. I ended the process in the background and it still went back to it. This is a real problem because car mode prevents the phone from going to sleep and also ends all apps that are running when it switches to car mode. It will do it while I am typing a text message and make me lose the message or while I am on any other app.

It also happens when I'm not on any app at all, the phone will be in my pocket and I'll pull it out and it will have half battery and be in car mode.

Sometimes when I turn it on it starts up in car mode.

Is there a way to permanently disable or remove the "Car Mode" from my phone?
