Any time your gums are bleeding you should get it checked.

Normally bleeding gums is a sign of gingivitis and normally

gingivitis is cause by poor oral hygiene but it can be caused by

other things. Perhaps the braces are inflamming your gums.

Or maybe you aren't brushing enough and you do have gingivitis.

Bleeding gums can cause more serious health problems because

bacteria in your mouth would not normally get into your bloodstream.

Sure you will swallow the bacteria but your stomach acids will kill it

(normally). But when your gums are bleeding this provides an avenue

for bacteria to get into your blood stream and cause serious health

    problems.

So ask your orthodontist what is going on and in the meantime

use a remedy that will kill the bacteria and prevent any further infection

of the gums. Salt, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide for example.

Don't mess around with it. See the orthodontist as soon as possible.

You need to brush better or more often or gentler etc...Here is my solution:

Get an electric toothbrush and make sure its soft not hard.

Bursh above and below the braces line. (My orthodontist was shocked when he took off my braces and said he never saw teeth look so good after removing the braces.)

I brushed 3 times a day. In morning before school, when I got home from school and before bed. That was when electric toothbrushes first came out for the public to use versus only in dentist office.

Anyway, try that. Again dont press too hard, get a soft brush or medium but not hard and do it gently and for a sufficient amount of time.

Also make sure after u eat to clean out between the braces any food that got stuck.

Give it time to heal also. U may also try a mouth rinse to add to your regime.

If all that fails get to the dentist.

    Good luck

It could be because your teeth are shifting into perfect alignment and that may cause slight occasional bleeding of gums but I still think you should ask your orthodontist about it on your next visit to be sure that is what it is and not something else. Don't be afraid to ask about it. It will be okay.
