Its assault with a weapon causing bodily harm & if the 14 year old dies its murder.

It could also be classed as attempted murder if the 14 year old does not die from

    the stab wounds.

In Canada you would not be placed in a prison -- you would go to a

juvenile detention centre til you are of age to be placed in a prison.

But that would depend on out come of the stabbing.

You would not receive a fine for this offense if convicted.

Upon release if sent to prison --- You would be released on parole.

During this time if you are arrested or convicted you would go back to prison

    to complete parole sentence.

So in other words don't ruin your life over a stabbing to a 14 year old.

This is based on Canadian law but probably not much different in the UK.

I don't know the sentencing guidelines for juvenile offenders but this is what it would be for an adult:

If you threaten someone with a knife, and they really believe you're going to use, you're likely to receive a custodial sentence in excess of 6 months.

For actually stabbing someone, even without killing them, the maximum sentence is life. An under 18 is unlikely to get life though.

If an adult took a knife somewhere with the intent of using it, and caused a wound that broke both layers of the skin (I guess this would include what you mean by 'stabbing'), then the judge would sentence to a minimum of 10 years. The wounding doesn't have to be life threatening or 'particularly grave' for this sentence to be given: if it were then the sentence would be higher.

There's absolutely no way that someone would escape prison for stabbing someone.

This depends on the severity of the injury but forget a fine - You're going to prison!

If its seen as attempted murder I would estimate 2-5 years

If is "just" GBH then probably about 6 months to 2 years

My sister was born with the bicuspid aortic valve. We just found out that scar tissue has massed around her heart due to repeated surgeries, and this makes her very short of breath and makes it hurt to run, etc. because the scar tissue binds to her heart and keeps her chest from being flexible. (She's only 10.) Respiritory doc will be able to tell you more, that's just a guess on my part.

In England and Wales, attempted murder is an offence under section 1(1) of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981 and is an indictable offence which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment (the same as the mandatory sentence for murder).

There is no fine. You would end up in the YOI that I work in for up to 5 years. it is full of youngsters serving sentences for knife crime.
