If 'Jesus is God' and God is immortal, how did Jesus die on a torture stake (staurus)?

The 'Jesus is God' statement evidently is intended to support the trinity concept, in which Father=Son=Holy Spirit, but this is refuted in many ways, one of which is that God was/ is ALWAYS immortal and Jesus wasn't..

.Additional confusion arrises because St. Jerome translated 'proskinesis' as 'worshiip' and 'latreia' as 'worship' creating the confusion that Jesus is not to be shown deep respect (proskinesis). This is precisely the deep respect Jesus IS to be shown. What he asked NOT to receive was' latreia' usually translated as 'worship' or 'adoration', ut reserved solely for God.

In the early days of Christianity, the first 400 years, there was no New Testament. So there was no 'standard' of Christian belief. There were many groups of Christians in those days who believed various things about Jesus. Some believed he was God masquerading as a man. Some believed he was just a man. Some believed he was both. The books of the New Testament were chosen by followers of Paul, and Paul believed Jesus was both God and man. Of course the man part could die.

There were others who believed that Jesus was just a normal man and The Christ was an angel who 'possessed' him at the time of his baptism. Like demonic possession, except it was angelic possession. The angel made Jesus capable of performing miracles, healing the sick, raising the dead, etc. On the cross, the angel abandoned Jesus because an angel can't die (or feel pain). The angel left Jesus the man to just die. That's why Jesus asked 'Why have you forsaken me?'

Also, not all early Christians believed Jesus was resurrected, or even that he died. Some thought he escaped the cross and a different man was killed in his place, or nobody was killed. There is suspicion even today that he ran off with Mary Magdaline, got married, raised kids, and had a normal life after he was done being 'Jesus Christ'.

Jesus is both God and man in one. Thus, being man, He died. The fact that He died does not disprove His deity.

Also, the doctrine of the trinity does not state that "Father=Son=Holy Spirit". The doctrine of the trinity clearly states that the three are unique and yet one. They share the same nature, but they are each unique persons.

One of the greatest proofs that the Trinity is true is this: God is love. If God were just one and no other, then who does God love? Some would say, "that is why He created humans". However, if God needed humans in order to love, then God would not be complete. He would be dependent on a created and temporal being to complete His existence. He would thus be imperfect. However, God is three in one. He is perfect love. Just like there is a husband, wife, and child--three people to form a community of love. God is perfect love--He is a trinity.

As for the Greek word "proskuneo" which is translated "worship", Jesus used this very word in Matthew 4:10 to answer the Devil saying, "‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him". Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy. Then several times in Matthew, the same Greek word "proskuneo" is used of people worshiping Jesus. Two examples include Matthew 14:33 (NAS) "And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, 'You are certainly God’s Son!'" and in Matthew 28:17 (NAS) "When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful."

Jesus never told anyone not to worship him. He accepted worship and invited it. In fact, Philippians 2:10-11 it says that all people will bow down and worship Jesus--"...so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow – in heaven and on earth and under the earth – and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord..."

Many Christian-like versions deny the deity of Christ, and thus, do not know God. I should know. I grew up as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. For over 20 years, I prayed only to "Jehovah" because I thought this was God. I was wrong. At age 26, I met Jesus. Now I worship and follow Him with all my life and being. He is not just God, He is my God. He rules my life.

Perhaps because God is a Spirit and there is only One Spirit and this One Spirit lives in everything and everyone. So the physical Jesus would be his body. His mind (free will that thing that directs would be his Father), and the Spirit is that thing that lives within everyone which makes us know things intuitively and experience emotions. So, everyone has the Spirit and a Father within them and even though the physical dies and changes form, the Spirit is the thing that is always immortal and remains the same forever..

God would not merely make up guidelines and do some thing He pleases. he's holy and good, and the guidelines for what's and is not any longer good might want to in no way were otherwise. God advised the early people that their in reality happiness lies in Him, and the different determination may reason them to death and misery. it truly is not any longer some thing God would have made otherwise if He felt like it- it truly is only an undemanding description of the nature of reality. . . style of like telling someone that in the journey that they bounce off a tall construction they're going to die. yet, they chosen to move their very personal way and do their very personal element besides, and, merely as He advised them, they suffered the outcomes for that. God does no longer be righteous or holy if he merely missed that sin and enable them do some thing they delighted. The penalty for sin is death, and if God is to be merely, then that debt could be paid, by some ability. yet God, being the loving author that he's, wasn't prepared to enable that be the entire of it. He became prepared to pay that cost Himself, so as that we'd be kept from hell. because if we do not pay the cost, then someone truthfully could do it in our position. Jesus might want to attempt this for us because He in no way sinned, and for this reason he did not owe a sin debt in any respect. it truly is style of like in case you devote against the law and get thrown in detention center. the different prisoners are not to any extent further going to be able that can help you position up bail. in reality someone who hasn't commited against the law and is for this reason no longer in detention center himself will be able to come back bail you out. So our sin-debt became paid via Jesus' death, and thanks to that, we would nicely be properly with God back. The righteousness of God is chuffed, and His love for us is proved at the same time.

That's what the Jehovah's Witnesses would have you believe, but it's simply not true.

The Witnesses make many absurd claims, but perhaps chief among them is the "torture stake" claim. The Romans were not impalers; they were crucifiers. Their use of crucifixion is well known and well documented. There's simply no credible evidence to suggest that Jesus was "staked" rather than crucified, and there's a good amount of evidence to the contrary.

The Witnesses also have to resort to their own translation of scripture to put forth their unique theology, but even this fails. Repeatedly -- even in the New World Translation -- Jesus teaches like he has the authority of the Law-giver, he claims for himself the rights of God, he reserves for himself the powers of God, he usurps the authority of God, he calls himself the names of God, and he accepts worship like God.

The only possible conclusions are A) that Jesus lied about being God, B) that Jesus believed he was God and was not (and was thus insane) or C) that Jesus was indeed who and what he claimed to be: God almighty in human form. There are no other logical possibilities.

    MARY (19) (maryam)

    Number of Verses: 98

In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. (19:1)

This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah (19:2). When he quietly called his Lord (19:3)

and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers (19:4).

I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son (19:5) who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you" (19:6).

We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." (19:7)

He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age" (19:8).

(The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist " (19:9). Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." (19:10)

Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. (19:11)

We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. To John We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood (19:12).

We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, (19:13) kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person (19:14). He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. (19:15) (Muhammad), mention in the Book (the Quran) the story of Mary how she left her family and started living in a solitary place to the East (19:16) out of her people's sight. We sent Our Spirit to her, who stood before her in the shape of a well formed human being. (19:17)

Mary said, "Would that the Beneficent God would protect me from you. Leave me alone if you are a God fearing person" (19:18).

He said, "I am the Messengers of your Lord. I have come to give you a purified son" (19:19).

She said, "How can I have a son when no mortal has touched me nor am I an unchaste woman" (19:20).

He said, "This is true but your Lord says, "It is very easy for Me. We have decided to give you a son as evidence (of Our existence) for human beings and a mercy from Us. This is a decree already ordained." (19:21)

She conceived the child and retreated with him to a distant and solitary place (19:22).

When she started to experience (the pain of) of childbirth labor, by the trunk of a palm tree in sadness she said, "Would that I had died long before and passed into oblivion." (19:23)

Then she heard the baby saying, "Do not be sad. Your Lord has caused a stream to run at your feet (19:24).

If you shake the trunk of the palm tree, it will provide you with fresh ripe dates. (19:25) Eat, drink, and rejoice. Should you see a person going by, tell him that on this day you have promised the Beneficent God to fast and never talk to any human being." (19:26)

She took him to her people and they said, "Mary, this is indeed an strange thing (19:27).

Aaron's sister, your father was not a bad man nor was your mother unchaste" (19:28).

She pointed to the baby (and referred them to him for their answer).

They said, "How can we talk to a baby in the cradle?" (19:29)

He said, "I am the servant of God. He has given me the Book and has appointed me to be a Prophet (19:30).

He has blessed me no matter where I dwell, commanded me to worship Him and pay the religious tax for as long as I live (19:31). He has commanded me to be good to my parents and has not made me an arrogant rebellious person (19:32).

I was born with peace and I shall die and be brought to life again with peace." (19:33)

Such was the true story of Jesus, the son of Mary, about which they dispute bitterly (19:34).

God is too Exalted to have a son. When He decides to bring some thing into existence He needs only command it to exist and it comes into existence. (19:35) (Baby Jesus said), "Worship God who is my Lord as well as yours. This is the straight path" (19:36). (The followers of Jesus) turned themselves into quarrelling sects. The disbelievers shall face a woeful condition on the great Day (of Judgment ). (19:37) (Muhammad), how clearly they will hear and see on the day when they will be brought into Our presence. Today the wrong doers are in manifest error. (19:38)

Warn them of the woeful day when the final decree will be issued; they are neglectful and faithless (19:39).

We are the heirs of the earth and those living in it will all return to Us. (19:40)

    Shalom,

I like your question. Our Lord is not the father plain and simple. He himself admitted that on several accasions. Trinity is a Pegan belief.

He says "I and the father are one."

Air, gas and a spark work together for one purpose, to start a vehicle. So the three are one in purpose but each are a seperate part of it.

If Christ was the father then when he was on the stake who was he crying out to? Or who spoke when he was baptised? Is this not the Father!?

Reject this pegan world and it's bunk philosophies!

    Praise the Father,

    Ca Roham

If "Jesus wasn't" immortal, as you say, how do you explain His Resurrection from the dead? And why does your "question" get lost in definitions of words that have no relevance to your initial question? Get your thoughts organized and come back to ask a more respectful question. God Bless you.

He died on a Roman cross because of His mortality as a man to save man

He brought Himself back from the dead because He is God, the voice of the burning bush

Jesus is God's son. Jesus died and God resurrected him to sit at his right hand til he placed his enemies at his feet. Only God is almighty.
