How do you get a 40:1 gas:oil mix?

A 50:1 mix would be a 100 ML bottle of 2-stroke oil, and 5 Litres of gasoline.

Am I correct in saying that that same bottle with 4 Litres of gasoline would be a 40:1 mix, or is my logic/math wrong?

There are 128 ounces to an American gallon. Divide 128 by 40 which will give you the ounces of oil needed.

It comes out to 3.2 ounces per gallon.

Don't measure by the amount of gas that is already in the tank. Only use enough oil to properly mix the amount og gas you are adding.

If you continually add the amount of oil to match the amount of gas in the tank, you'll throw the ratio out of whack.
