india:- can a person in india have two surnames at a time is it official?

like eg.

the girl is foreigner ( surname :- ABC ) the guy is indian (surname :- XYZ )

can she change her name as :- NAME - ABC - XYZ ??? is this official for all purpose , govt, laws , anythng ?

Update:

Dear sir,

thank you very much for details ... but what about its acceptance. like say , she wants to open a bank account in India & now on marriage certificate it will be (name - abc- xyz ) but her documents willl be same as her maiden name.. so will it be acceptable ??? is there any need to convert them as new name or the old will work ?

It is absolutely official to tag husband's surname with the maiden surname. Only she has to change the Surname record in Bank etc. My daughter Barnali Ray after marriage to a Shukla groom, writes her surname as 'Ray Shukla' which is officially accepted.

Previously it was not like this. The bride's surname used to get changed to Groom's surname after marriage without any mention of her maiden surname. Now, due to Women's empowewrment, women want their own identity and thus two surnames are in vogue.

    Clear, dear ??
