I am an Amish teenager and I need some help about a non-Amish girl?

First of all, I am on my non-Amish neighbor's computer. I know this is wrong, but I really wanted help and he said y'all had good advice.

Today I was working on my family's farm and a group drove up. I didn't pay much attention, I'm used to people dropping by to buy swings or jellies. I noticed a girl about my age (I'm 15), and she was the most beautiful girl ever. She was wearing these really short pants. I felt bad looking at her like that, but I couldn't help it. I kept smiling at her as she looked around our farm, she looked happy, but I don't know. Later tonight my dad apologized to my brothers and I for having to see a girl dressed like that and that she was indecent, so he already doesn't like her. If she ever comes back, what should I do? Do you think she would ever come back? Could I get her to convert to Amish?

You can't ever change someone-- especially not to such a majorly different lifestyle. To be honest, most teens wouldn't even dream of going Amish, due to how important the Internet and media are to the majority of us these days.

You have a lot of different options. First of all, are you doing your "rumspringa" right now (to random people reading this, that's the time in adolescence where Amish teens generally make their decision whether or not to stay Amish... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumspringa)? If so, you might decide to leave the Amish community when the time comes to make your final decision, but that's a very personal choice, and it definitely shouldn't be to follow this girl.

Honestly, though she might come back to visit your farm, it's not something to put a lot of thought into. You're experiencing a typical crush-- 99.9% of crushes mean jack squat, and are either admiration from afar or a short-lived relationship. You might not exactly be allowed to date her, depending on what the rules and expectations are within your community, but even if you did, it would be one tough relationship to make work, considering your two drastically different backgrounds. I suggest if you ever see her again, to make small talk with her. Don't try to court her, just try to be her friend, and take it from there.

First off if you are a teen you are ok using a computer since both New Order & Old Order Amish allow their teens to have rumspringa. So I'm sure you won't get in trouble using your Mennonite neighbors computer. This is expected of teens.

True 15 is a little early. It is usually at 16 not 15. So speak to your bishop about it.

I'm sure your Dat (Amish children usually call their Fathers either Father or Dat)noticed this because since you are a boy & were out working with him.

Now if your family women sell home grown goods they are use to strangers aka Englishers dropping by wearing all kinds of clothes. So I'm confused why your Dat apologized. That would be humbling himself to the English behavoior. Most Amish men would NEVER do that.

It is rare for Englishers to convert to Amish.

During your rumspringa you will meet more Englishers & Amish girls from other districts during local & area singings which are often held every other Sunday on a NON-CHURCH week. I'm sure you are aware of this too.

Edit - also honey if you are using Rosetta Stone to learn languages you are using computers. You posted 2mts ago about using Rosetta Stone . We use it a lot in our homeschool. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Any0q... Most Amish bishops would not allow learning different languages. Most Amish kids & teens do not learn German until after they are baptisted into the church.

Also according to you "Is it okay that I have a German lover, but I live in America?" - I guess you forgot but since you are Amish you are clearly German. The Amish are a German group.

    1. No offense, but she probably will never convert to Amish Life. Few people do. 2. I suggest you convert, is there a time in Amish life where you have a decision? 3. Good-Luck!

She might come back if she needs more of something your family sells..otherwise I wouldn't count on it.

When you come of age will your parents let you take a year and live in a city to decide if you want to stay Amish or not? I can about guarantee she wouldn't convert to Amish, but maybe if you became not-Amish, you could see her...or meet more girls like her. It's completely your choice of course. Good luck :)

@Bebe: You can't tell him to think about "becoming normal" he is a normal teenage boy, he just leads a different way of life than you.

She might come back, but I highly doubt that you could convert her to Amish. It is very hard for girls to switch and the only chance you would have being with her is if you switch and became normal.

I don't know if she will come back, but if she does, why don't you try to talk to her? As for having to convert her, leave that for the end because that seems very selfish concidering that she has a life too.

I doubt she will come back there, so don't make plans to convert her. Try to refocus yourself on your life and your own plans. Good luck!

    haha, this is so cute.

she probably won't come back, at least not for a while. it's not anything you did, but she's a customer.

If she does, just be nice, be friendly, and try talking to her.
