Is my rabbit too old to be neutered?
I have a 5 year old rabbit that I rescued from a bad situation. He is really sweet, and I have bonded with him so much that he follows me around my yard and lies down with me in the shade, our yard is all fenced in, but he doesn't even try to run away anyway. However, sometimes if he smells a rabbit or my guinea pig on my clothes, or if something inspires him, he tries to mount my arm or leg. He has also peed on me and my friends a few times. I understand this behavior can be stopped by neutering him, but I am worried he is too old. Is it okay to neuter a 5 year old rabbit? Also, would that affect his bond with me? I don't want his personality to change because he is so sweet, I just wish he didn't have that urge. So should I neuter him or not?

5 years old is on the older side for a rabbit. which is good because that means you must be taking good care of him. I don't really think its worth it. It costs a significant amount of money, its risky because they are such small animals, and you have to have a small animal vet do it, one that is familiar with rabbits. I don't think its going to change the peeing thing, some rabbits just pee a lot. And the mounting thing is gross, ive had it happen a few times to me with my rabbits. To stop the humping thing, maybe you could give him something to hump in is cage, so he wont feel so urged to do it to you. when its hot my bucks like frozen 2 liter bottles hahaha. or go to the dollar store and buy him a stuffed animal like a dog toy. If you do get him neutered, it might make him more lethargic. i really don't see the point, if i were you i wouldn't. One of ours is neutered because he is blind in one eye, and he needed to be with a mother rabbit to help take care of him.

I definitely have had "senior" rabbits neutered on numerous events devoid of unwell-consequences. it incredibly is significant, however, to have thorough bloodwork accomplished previously. The increased possibility in an older animal is frequently with the aid of declining organ functionality, so which you're able to intend to make very optimistic that his liver, kidneys, and so forth are all in reliable shape formerly identifying to neuter him. communicate with your rabbit-educated vet approximately their alternatives and thoughts and make the determination from that element. Do additionally understand that if he's lived on my own for 7 years, it incredibly is extremely demanding to bond him with yet another rabbit, so whether you probably did neuter him, there is an threat you will no longer have the skill to maintain them jointly besides.

I wouldn't think it would be bad to get him neutered. But if you have concerns I would take him to your vet and they can tell you for sure.
