    A panda (assuming your thinking of the Great Panda, the black and white one) is a bear belonging to the Ursidae family. Closest relative is the spectacled bear of South America

    Red Pandas are in a category of their own, previously they have been classified either as bears or raccoons, they are now accepted as a unique species called Ailuridae.
