I Have Back Pain But My Doctor Just Keeps Prescribing Pain Medication, What Are the Underlying Issues?

I want to correct the issue causing the lower back pain (left-side only), not mask the symptoms (pain) with medication.

Instead of my general practitioner, what specialist could I go see for the underlying issue?

That you have a doctor who is not concerned about getting at the source, but wants you to keep coming back to get your money. You should go to a specialist, a chiropractor. Pain is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. Go informed with questions, do your research, so the doctor will not just treat the symptoms but work to resolve the problem.

You could go to a chiropractor who would do adjustments on your spine to get it aligned right.

Go see a chiropractor. Sounds like your doctor is lazy. This is also a good article http://herbcraft.org/backpain.html
