Verizon "my daughter is graduating college"?

A recent commercial from Verizon has a seemingly intelligent woman claiming that her "daughter is graduating college"? No one graduates college. They graduate FROM college. I wonder how this slipped passed the proofreaders. Or, is this just another example of the dumbing down (if you'll excuse my pejorative term) of American English? What are your thoughts?

specific, you're patently being selfish. It exhibits by skill of you asserting you're a single mom and waited all your existence for the only (spelled with capitals). of course you have faith you have rights to happiness. yet granted, you % to attend untill she finishes highschool. i think of this is totally cool of you. what number households do no longer wait for the toddlers, yet already circulate whilst the toddlers are IN highschool? Sorry on your daughter, yet shifting is a actuality of existence. and that i'm additionally sorry that she basically sees the hazards, yet she would be waiting to income new issues whilst she's there. She's additionally being selfish right here. even nonetheless, i could refrain from making this a 'who's the main selfish' contest. Admit which you're selfish, and then word that she is selfish too. Having crossed that bridge, you may communicate the advantages or staying or going. As I suggested, many households circulate in the time of their existence, and the toddlers virtually never % to circulate. yet this is quite not the youngster's selection, this is the make certain's selection. you may supply your toddlers a greater existence, with an entire kin (with a father parent), a happier mom, and in all probability a greater income. Neither your existence, nor that of your loved ones, revolves around your daughter's highschool existence. you are the grownup. you will desire to recognize that your daughter's acquaintances and familiarity together with her college are non everlasting. They define her existence magnificent now, yet you recognize it won't consistently be that way. With all that in the time of recommendations i could definitely propose you initiate making plans for shifting this twelve months.

I think a healthy language should be free to evolve and develop. I don't speak English; I speak American! If we, as a community, agree on the meaning of "graduating college" then that's what it means. It's the phrase we often use, and phrases, though not always "proper" are still a part of the language, so why does it really matter?

Both forms are commonly used, and have been used for ages. Both are also featured in the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary (and presumably other dictionaries). Get off your high horse; or, if you prefer: get off WITH your high horse.
