Getting hired at 17. What to do?
Well, there is this bagel shop/cafe down my street. I saw a help wanted sign in the window for about 3 months now. I applied about 4 weeks ago, but the girl who took my app lost it. So, I talked to the manager and he really didn't seem to care. I filled out a new one about 2 weeks ago. Still no call or anything, but the sign is still in the window.
What should I do? My parents are pressuring me to get a summer job and I want one, but the manager didn't seem to receptive and I think there might be a high turnover. Besides, I don' want to make bagels all day.
My friend said just go into my local town and stop in at businesses and ask if they are hiring. Should I do that even if there is no help wanted sign? It is kinda awkward doing that over and over again and no one needs any help.

Getting a summer job for teens is not a very easy thing. Your parents should really try and assist you with your contacts in town, if any.
Anyway, try the appointments column of your local newspaper and see what are the jobs available. Otherwise, just make a list of some companies, reasonably respectable, and phone them to speak with them to see if some vacancy exists in some of them.

quick tip. Trick to getting hired is to fill out more than one application at a time.
Apply EVERYWHERE.
