the russian soldiers defeated the Germans in WW II and the germans were the best equipped and trained soldiers in the world. But the Russians were fighting for their home land

in Afghanistan the locals armed with american weapons defeated the whole russian occupation force

The most powerful weapon is the love to one's land. This was and always will be the main reason, why russians always won.

Everybody wants Russia, or at least, some part of Russia. Russian natural resources interfere with sleep at night peacefully, don't they? - This only increases the russian's patriotism.

Ordinary russian soldier is paid much worse than american one. Almost no american would go in the army with such salary. Not to mention about a war...

Russians do not need money for fighting for russian land. They can fight for free.
