You dont have to go to California just to have fun. at your age you should be having some fun. Why not help your mom clean the house, wash your clothes or whatever get busy at home and school. your still a kid you have a long way to go to be serious.

Anywhere, and not only in CA. Join activities that interest you, and you will meet people with similar activities, new friends. If you've ever gone to camp or been in lessons (dance, etc), see if you can be a CIT (Counselor in Training), which is usually a volunteer position now at 16, but may lead to a paid position the next year. It's a little late to look for these jobs, but give it a shot, sometimes there are openings even in summer. Look at local community centers, city parks & recreation, and private camps.

Lots of my son's friends do this at the camps they attended as kids, and they have a great time, or they wouldn't do it, after all, lots of them aren't getting paid yet. (Some of his older teen friends are real Counselors now, just had van driving lessons to pick up the campers from home each day.) The CITs tend to spend a lot of time with other CITs, not just with the kids, so lots of new friends. You kind of have to be rather friendly and have a good sense of humor to do a job like this, dealing with kids all day, so it would be a good place to find fun people.

See if there are any local teen programs or classes, like at community centers, or with the city. In my area there are field trips (beach, Universal Studios, sporting events, dances, poetry slams, talent nights, college tours, etc) for teens sponsored by the city and organizations, that are free or very low cost. Also, look into Extended Learning or Community Learning (or whatever they call it where you are) at community colleges. Those are very low cost non-credit classes for the community, and they usually have a set of classes for teens. In my area there are all kinds of classes, like acting, cotillion (formal dance parties), how to network, guitar, writing, photography, etc.

    Good luck!
