I'm going to sell my car but, it has some decals on it and I want to take them off.?
Does anyone have any experience in taking decals off of the painted surface of a car
without destroying the clear coat or paint? What did you use?

T2 auto thinners..
but if the paint is DUCO.. and its been on the car more than 6 months.. most thinners will take the stickers off without affecting the paint..
Quick ring to the local crash repairs should get you a few pints of something suitable..

There is a possibility that you can get a rag soak with soapy water and keep dabbing the decal.
I know soapy water takes labels off of jar and bottles.
Ice might also work.
Or a CO2 fire extingisher.
I go for cheap fixes first, you can always buy something later if the free things don't work.

The trick i have learned from the guys at the dealerships is the heat gun, they remove the labels and emblems from other dealers to apply their own. You just hit it with the heat for a few minutes, and use a plastic scraper knife to gently remove it. Then use a little WD-40 to cut the rest of the adhesive residue.

WD 40 works well for loosening stickers, glue, tar etc from car paint.
