XML stands for "eXtensible Markup Language"
It is used for transporting data between two different systems. It is sometimes used to store data on your local machine, even though a different system is not involved.
There are entire tutorials on XML, and this forum doesn't allow for that kind of detail, so I have provided a URL to a tutorial for you.

xml (eXtensible Mark-up Language)
It is a way for you to define your tags so others can understand.xml describes the 'substance of a document where html describes the style.

it's a great way of storing and transmitting data.
However, it doesn't do anything on its own, it's just data wrapped in tags. You need another tool (for example you can use css, xslt or many others) to visualise it.
Think of a box with lots of fancy stuff inside, but you need someone to open it and use the content. Then the box can be passed on and opened/used by someone else.
