A few questions about Malia? Please help!!?
Hi guys, I want to visit Malia in October for my 18th birthday and have a few questions (preferably if you've been, please!)
1. When I am looking for holidays it isn't really being straightforward. I thought Malia was a small-ish place but these sites are sort of making it sound like their are different areas of Malia? Is this true? And if so, what would the best part to visit be? Baring in mind that I am looking for clubs and good nightlife! Of course a nice beach but this holiday is mainly about going out.
2. Is Malia strict on I.D? As I would have already turned 18 but my friends will still be 17. When getting drinks/getting into clubs are we likely to be asked for I.D?
3. What kind of music is played? Strange question I know but I'm a UK/OLDSCHOOL/ANY TYPE of Garage girl. I also listen to R&B, Drum&Bass, Bashment, Dance. I've seen a few websites that speak as though Indie is the main music played which is worrying lol.
4. What is the currency and how expensive is the country as a whole? So for example if I went for a week all inclusive how much money would I need to take (GBP) considering all food and drink would be free? I'd probably buy a few drinks in clubs when i'm out every night, I'm a smoker so cigarettes and souveneirs/gifts. But that's about it. For example how far would £100 get you? £200?
5. When going on holiday websites some say adult is 12+, some say 16+, some say 18+. When looking at 18+ ones, this really worries me as when booking rooms. (We would need at least 2) the websites don't give you a choice, you HAVE to have one adult in each room. But I will be the only "adult" and can obviously only be in one room. Are hotels strict on this? I know when you check in they check your passports, would this cause an issue or would it not matter?
6. Which hotels/appartments do you reccomend? (Close to night life) I am not bothered about it being a palace. We just want it to be clean and good food really!
7. Sorry, last question. When you go all inclusive what drinks are usually served in hotels? I've seen lots of hotels say "local beer and wine" as you can probably tell I'm not a beer and wine person. More of a Vodka/Cocktails/Shots. LOL. Just wondering if this is usually an option in hotels?
8. Will it still be lively in October? I don't want to go there for nowhere to be open and no other people lol.
Sorry lol, worked out as a few more questions than I intended! Please please please do not lecture me! I always seem to get people telling me "why would you want to go on holiday just to party and drink?" Because I do! So please dont write me paragraphs giving me reasons why I should "stay at home and save my money." Thankyou in advance to anyone who helps! Oh yes and please can you number your answers! Gets confusing otherwise lol Xxx

Hi There
Having been to Malia twice i will try my best to answer all of your questions.
1: Malia is the main hotspot for nightlife, you do have the surrounding places like Stalis and Malia Old Town both if which are a bit quieter and i would reccomend a taxi to Malia rather than walking. If you want to be in the centre of it all, make sure your hotel is listed as "in Malia" it normally sayrs on most sites how far the hotel is from the nightlife. You want to be about a 5-10 minute walk really, o more else you get knackered.
2: I do not think they care one bit about I.D in all fairness, we were all in our mid 20's so never got asked but we never saw anyone getting asked
3: I went in 2009 and the music was brill, mainly Garage/Bassline/Hip Hop etc. You do get the odd bar that plays abit of cheese and stuff but your going to the right place if you like your Garage. Best bars for this are Lush, Pink Fish and Banana Bar
4: If you all inclusive you wont need too much money as you can get tipsy before going out and not have to buy any food etc. I went self catering so took £800 for 2 weeks which i easily spent. Fags are dirt cheap out there, less than £2 for 20. If you go all inclusive for 1 week you would probably only need about 200 spending money, if that. Depends if you wanna do any day trips etc too.
5: If you book an 18-30's holiday only 1 of you has to be 18, the others can be 16/17. Most hotels do not mind as long as one of the party is over 18. When we went to Falaraki back in 2002 my brother was only 16 but i was classed as his guardian, his friend also 16 just had to get a signed letter from his parents to say they were happy with him coming abroad with me as the adult.
6: We stayed in Stalis so i would reccomend having a look on trip advisor at the hotels. Sites like Icelolly, Sunmaster and Onthebeach are all really cheap so you should be able to find somewhere close to the nightlife then check it out on tripadvisor for some reviews. The site is great as everyone is really honest when reviewing.
7: Most hotels will serve a mixture of drinks but be warned, most now stop serving the "free" alcohol at 10pm. Sneaky i know but with Greece going through a recession its what had to be done.
8: The peak season is end of May to end of October so you should be ok, the later you leave it in Oct the quieter it will be though so try and go as early as you can. It does tend to die down a bit towards the end of September. It will still be hot though so does attract people
Just be careful out there, the drinks are very strong and know your limits. The spirits are cheaper to buy than the mixers so they are not shy when serving. I got my drink spiked but luckily my friends were there. Keep an eye on your drinks at all times
I would try and visit the waterpark if you have enough money, and star beach which is free (daytime foam parties etc)
Have fun x
