21st birthday coming up but breastfeeding?
I am not going to go crazy--I just plan on having about a half a glass of some Moscoto white wine at Olive Garden on my Birthday. I just want to know how much I need to pump beforehand so that I give myself adequate time for the alcohol to leave my system before another feeding. I know that I should drink tons of water afterward and in between sips of wine. Are there any other suggestions?? (And please don't bash me I think I am a good mom for at least asking.)

You will be fine. As long as you don't get plastered (which you said you weren't going to go crazy). You can pump before. There is a saying that goes "if you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed". Less than 2% of the alcohol actually reaches the breast milk.

I asked my sister-in-law this question...she works as a nurse for a OB/GYN. She said less than 2% of the alcohol goes into the breastmilk...so given that you're only drinking about a half glass of wine, it will probably be less than 2%. She said that amount of wine is nothing to concern yourself about. But like another one suggested...pump out enough milk for however long you will be gone. Happy Birthday!

The average body metabolizes alcohol at the rate of one 12 oz can of beer /one 4 oz glass of wine /one 1 oz shot of liquor per hour so if you're only drinking one glass of wine there should be no need to express any milk if you feed before you drink and wait an hour after you drink to feed again.
That being said, you might want to express enough for one or two feedings just in case you drink more than planned.
HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY!

It's totally fine :-) When I had my daughter the lactation consultants told me it's absolutely fine as long as you don't go crazy. A glass of wine is fine. I know some people go nuts thinking you can't have anything when nursing, but if you are that concerned you can always discard all the milk you produce a few hours after you drink. This should clear it out. Enjoy and happy birthday :-)

You need to ask your doctor. Some say there's no reason at all to pump and dump, because even if you drank to the legal limit that's still only a very small % that ends up in your milk. But I know women who are anal about the pump and dump and they won't nurse for hours after they drink. If you have a fussy baby who doesn't tolerate certain things in your diet then I wouldn't try to nurse after drinking, but if you're only having one glass then neither you or your baby will get drunk.

You just need to pump enough to cover the hours that you are away from your baby.
Once you are home again you can breastfeed. No need to wait a set number of hours or pump and dump. Only a trace of alcohol gets into the milk, and it's cleared from your milk as it's cleared from your blood.
If you're sober enough to drive home and handle your baby, you're safe to nurse.

Honestly I think you'll be ok. Yes, it's good that you care enough to ask, but a single glass of wine isn't going to be enough to any harm.

Small amounts of wine is actually beneficial when nursing. Therefore, drink a very small amount and don't worry about....plus - do NOT pump....in fact, toss the stupid thing in the garbage. The only pump you need is your newborn.
I realize it will be your 21st birthday, a huge milestone for most......however, you have a baby and you must think about what's best for your baby - not you.
