Can HDMI connect to a computer through some sort of adaptor?

Is there an adaptor that will allow me to connect the HDMI cable coming from my HD cable box to my computer so that I can use my computer as a TV monitor?

    Modern pc's often have HDMI ports, but there are HDMI to DVI converters. Only downside is that these can't channel audio.

    Yes, DVI and HDMI are in essence the same thing. HDMI includes audio which DVI does not but you can buy adapters for them
