I want a new laptop. what would you recommend?
I use it for emailing, web surfing, and office stuff (word processors, excels, powerpoints etc). I don't need a gaming beast with tons of high quality graphics etc, but I do like my digital photography. I'd like a fast processor and quite a large memory (500G) Oh and a reliable wireless connection would be good too (my ipad never loses connection but I'm not that keen on a mac for my computer)

Toshiba Portege R835-P56X
This is a nice 13" laptop which has Intel's brand new SandyBridge i5 2410m processor which is really quick and it also has great battery life. It also packs a 640gb hard drive which you will surely appreciate. It is currently available on Amazon for $800 and is an excellent portable machine. This is not a computer to game on but it will run some less graphically intense games on lower settings.

If you want something a bit larger with more power try out the recently updated Sony C series, they seem like well balanced laptops and come in both 14" and 15" sizes. They also feature the same processor as the Toshiba but the graphics are better but don't expect the same battery life as the Toshiba. I think that the series start around $750 and with a hard drive upgrade you should hit about $800.
If you are looker for something a bit cheaper try pricing out a Dell or an HP laptop, I think they are offering a free xbox 360 if you buy one for $699 or more. The offer is only for students and you can sell it on Ebay if you have no need for it. and make some money.
Personally prefer Apple, Sony, Toshiba and Asus as they have the lowest failure rates, which isn't saying much since Laptops in general have high failure rates. for example Asus which leads the pack has a failure rate of about 16% which is rather high but they also include Accidental Damage warranties on a number of their laptops which is rather nice.
Happy hunting!

I would suggest a Hp Envy 14 I7-720 or Sony Vaio S series Model Number: VPCSA2BGXBIVGPBPSC24/BUNDLE. The sony is the better of the two, significantly better, but get whichever works better for you. They are both really good laptops.

The Macbook Pro will allow you to do all those things and more-but they can be pricey. You can get a Dell for less than a $1,000 with all those features. If you get Windows 7 which is standard you can get lots of storage space for your pictures on "Cloud."
