spider pig!!!1 asked in PetsFish · 10 years ago

would this be a good idea for my cichlid tank?

i have an african cichlid tank with a few other fish in. ive always had trouble making caves for them. i would usually use large stones and sort of pile them up and make openings for the fish to swim through, but the holes were always to small.

well im now using lava rock caves (fake stuff) which ive piled ontop of one another. i only have 2 bits at the moment as its not cheap.

my tank is 55 gallons. and this is what i mean

Yes, those will work just fine, you will need many of them, as African cichlids are usually extremely aggressive when there aren't enough hiding places.

I would say that would work. You can buy caves made of plastic or resin that aren't enormously expensive. Or you could get some aquarium silicone or epoxy and glue rocks together to make caves of whatever size you want.
