Am I the only one thinks Harry Potter series are overrated?
1. no prose
2. no beauty in Rowling writing
3. no literacy merit
4. full of cliches and pop culture
5. no originality
The series don't suck. I had the first and second one. I read the third one at the library. The films are mediocre at best except the third one.
I think the series are overrated and overrhyped Compare to many classic fantasy novels such as Lord of the Rings, Earthsea, A Wrinkle of a Time, etc.. Harry Potter is a down-level version.
What's so interesting about a boy and his magical school. In the beginning of the books when he with his aunt and uncle are cliched.
May literacy scholars such as Michael Rosen, Harold Bloom, Ursula K. Le Guin, Anthony Holden don't see the book as a classic and describe the series...it seemed a lively kid's fantasy crossed with a "school novel", good fare for its age group, but stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited or pedestrian, ungrammatical prose style or Rowling's mind is so governed by clichés and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing.
Sooner or later, many people will question Rowling's writing and how Harry Potter get so popular to begin with.
Well....that is my opinion. So, Am I am the only thinks Harry Potter series are overrated.

No, I too find the whole series to be overrated. I read books 1-3 then gave up because I thought they were getting duller and duller. I don't like the films because I don't like a certain actor who is incidentally the main actor. -.- The books get very repetetive and to be honest I think the books are popular because JK Rowling happened to get lucky when publishing her book.

Partially its overrated. It's a seven book series, morphing into 8 full length movies. Some aspects of it are overrpraised, some of it is underrated. I understand your frustration about the film lovers not reading the books, but consider JK Rowling's writing style is not for everyone. My dad loves the movies, but finds her writing style alienating. The books are quite long in length and it is hard to find time to read a book, and fantasy fiction is really alienating sometimes. Overpraised things in Harry Potter include Chris Columbus' direction, the main three characters, etc and underrated is the 3rd movie and the performances of the older actors, such as Ralph Fiennes. The main problem with Harry Potter is the 'trying to get Voldemort plot' is stretched over three books and four films and runs thin, meaning the films and novels struggle to find their own substance in parts, and can be occasionally dull. That was the problem with the first Deathly Hallows movie was that for such a long running time, nearly nothing was happening. Book series such as LOTR did it right in making a journey over 9 hours in length, but that is because everything was thought it in a through fashion. Harry Potter is inconsistent in parts, so it is patchy, but despite that it's still a good series in the film and book sense. About your peers, know that its okay to like the books and dislike the films and like the films and dislike the novels. If peers are being cruel, hopefully you've got a good teaching department. Other than that, just enjoy what you enjoy and don't let it get to you.

I have a weird relationship with the HP series. I like the first three books, but can't read through the rest. What's really weird is that my favorite character, Luna Lovegood, doesn't even appear until the forth book/movie. I do think J. K. Rowling does have quite a bit of originality, but it's just not my style. Though I'd rather read Harry Potter than Twilight any day. When are people going to realize that a dude staring at a girl sleeping in her house (who goes to school with her) is extremely creepy and said dude will most likely become a stalker.

I don't think she's a good writer for many of the reasons you cited, but especially because of the amateurish of her prose, especially in the 4th book (yep, I posted a question about it, too, haha). But I think she's very creative, more creative than most authors I've read, so I don't agree with #5.
Do I think they're overrated? I'll be starting book 5 soon (oddly, I took a break from book 4 to read other books and regain my knowledge of what good writing is, lol) and I don't think they're overrated so far. I think they're very creative, though the writing is towing the line on being amateurish. But, the creativity is the only thing that keeps me reading. I also like some of her plots. Out of the 4 books I've read, the 3rd one was the best as far as plots go. The 4th is the worst as far a amateur prose, followed closely by #1. And, now, her amateur prose has nothing to do with the fact that she writes for children. I read books for young adults and middle grade (9-12) and most of them are NOT that badly written...

Actually, I haven't read the Harry Potter series yet. I don't plan to either because the idea doesn't appeal to me. But, you're not the only one who doesn't like them. If a book is popular it has fans and it has haters.

Personally i found the books mediocre and the films just plain terrible. The books are acceptable but the films are just wayy overrated

No, you're not the only person who think they're overrated. Many people think that they are. Not everybody loves the series. Nonetheless, I love Harry Potter, always have. But yeah, you're not alone.

This talk about prose is nonsense.
The important thing is to tell a good story and tell it well.
JK Rowling is a fantastic storyteller.
By the way, Questioner, work on your grammar.

Personally, I think Rowling is a very talented writer.
I like HP (though not the movies), but no, not everyone does.

ive never read them only watched the movies. I dont really judge books/movies too much so im kinda mutual with it. I do kinda think its stupid how Harrys always in trouble and some of the things they investigate on it like y do they care? Cant they just let it b? And Harry always gets away from his friends somehow and is on his own. Kinda stupid. But i dont really hate the movies but dont really love them either. Did u know when she sent it to the publisher, the publisher didnt like it so put it in the reject pile. Then wen the reject pile worker was going through them she started reading and sent it to another publisher and they published it. So her book was really never meant to b published.
