How can you tell if you have a stomach virus?

My stomach really hurts, I have a fever and I feel like throwing up, although I don't know if I might have caught a stomach virus or I got food poisoning.....and no, I'm not pregnant or anything. So how can you tell the difference between a stomach virus and food poisoning??

    Well let me just tell you my experience with a stomach virus. When i woke up I felt fine ate breakfast and went to school. 1st period: I felt like I could taste blood in my mouth but I just shrugged it off. 2nd period: Blood taste went away, felt fine. 3rd period: started to have light stomach pains. Lunch: Stomach hurt didn't want to eat anything. 4th period: Felt horrible, stomach hurt and I ended up crying and going to the nurse. At the nurse: the pain got worse and worse, started throwing up, went home.

    Home: Throwing up, bad stomach pain throwing up a lot more. Ended up having pain like knives 3 hours later which lasted all night until I screamed myself to sleep. When I woke up the pain was gone no more throwing up but I still had no appetite. Went to the doctor and had to get an antibiotic. If you have anything like my story then it may be a virus.

    Food Poisoning symptoms: Stomach virus symptoms:

    * nausea, nausea

    * vomiting, vomiting

    * diarrhea, and diarrhea

    * abdominal cramping. abdominal cramping

    So you can see they actually have the same symptoms, so sorry to say but you really will only know if you go to the doctor. The only thing I can think of is how a stomach bug will cause you to feel weak and fatigued, so anyway compare your story with mine, and also think: Have you eaten any meat or fish or eggs in the past 20 hours? If you have that could hold the clue to food poisening or not. That includes licking the spoon when your making cookies, bad sushi, or undercooked meat.

    Sorry I read your question and saw the other answer was lousy so I just tried to help as best as I could. :) Good luck and sorry your feeling lousy.
