Making "cosmetics" as defined by the FDA is my business. Are you willing to buy supplies for your spa themed party online? Or do you need to buy them locally? If your only going to buy them locally do you have a Michaels store close? But I would rather recommend you order online. I'll give you some great links to suppliers.

I would suggest buying a scale and weighing out the ingredients that your going to need for your products. Many of these could be premeasured and put into zip lock sandwich bags. Just be sure to label the bags by writing the ingredient name and weight onto a white address label. Then stick the label onto the bag. If you want to make sure it sticks well and won't come off, add a piece of 2" wide clear packing tape. It's better to weigh out your ingredients in grams even if you think of the whole batch in terms of ounces.

All items that come in contact with fragrance oil should not be used for food again. So shop at dollar stores for those items.

Bath salts are awesome, and most people often don't use enough in their bath to get optimal effects from them. You can make easy enough. This is a recipe to make 8 ounces of bath salts

In a large bowl measure out

    14 grams of baking soda

1 1/2 tsp skin safe fragrance oil

If you want your bath salts colored you can add in a few drops of food coloring.

Use a whisk and whisk these two ingredients together very well to get rid of any clumps.

Add in 14 grams of cornstarch

And continue to whisk in until it's well blended.

Add in 195 grams of Epson Salt

Continue to whisk until it's well blended and your coloring is blended evenly. If you want a strong color go strong on the coloring when it's added. The color will tone down once you add in your Epson Salts. Pour into a zip bag, label with contents and enjoy.

Sugar Scrubs (sugar and oil) are quite popular but the down side is that if your making a jar of them it really needs to be in a plastic jar for safety but more importantly it needs a preservative to keep mold and bacteria from growing if water is introduced into the container while it's being used. So this is a great alternative. They are also safer because scrubs that are made from sugar and oil do leave the tub very slippery and that is a hazard for the shower area. You don't want anyone to get hurt. Also the oil/sugar scrubs tend to leave the skin feeling like an oil slick. These are awesome! But you should use a small mold such as the Wilton Brownie Bites Pan. Keep in mind you won't be able to use it for food after it's been used with fragrance oils. Or you can use a silicone ice cube tray. Or you can use a silicone square pan and cut them into cubes. The advantage to these is they are single use scrub cubes.

To make a 4 oz batch

23 grams of Melt and Pour soap Base

23 grams of soybean oil (vegetable oil)

    66 grams of sugar

3/4 tsp skin safe fragrance oil.

Melt the melt and pour soap (chopped into small pieces) in the microwave oven, using 30 second bursts until melted. Add your soybean oil and sugar and stir well. Once this has cooled down a bit add in your fragrance oil and stir well. You may be able to color these with a small amount of food coloring, I've not tested it since I use other colorings for my products. Pour into your mold, remove once they have hardened.

If your going to buy Melt and pour soap for the sugar scrub cubes you might as well make some bars of soap. You can find some really cute soap molds at craft stores or online.

To make a 4 oz bar weigh out 112 grams of the soap base and chop it up and melt in the microwave oven. Once it's cooled a bit, add 3/4 tsp skin safe fragrance oil. Pour into mold and let harden. If you have it spray the top with some rubbing alcohol to remove any surface bubbles. That step is not necessary but it's nice. Once it's hardened fully remove the soap from the mold by pressing on the back of the mold. You can add a little food coloring to color, not much just a little.

How about some fun scented lotion !!!! Since there is a lot to making your own lotion from scratch, I won't go there. But you can buy a base from a supplier OR you can go to the store and buy some unscented lotion. The only thing we are going to add to it is going to be fragrance oil so that won't disrupt the preservative system. Since containers are going to be an issue for this one, I can suggest a great supplier for bottles for this. If not use those glad/rubbermaid type 1/2 cup or 1 cup bowls. They won't be the prettiest but they will be functional.

I'll suggest making a 3 oz batch and use the bowls. If you are going to order bottles for your lotion I'll recalculate this for you according to the size bottles your going to use and give other instructions for getting the lotion into the bottles.

Weigh out 83 grams of your unscented lotion

stir in 1/2 tsp skin safe fragrance oil

pour into your bowl and label clearly.

Source(s): OUT OF SPACE, I know many recipes that you could use to make. If I do not have space feel free to email me and I can send them via email. The link to email me is on my profile here. If I know your going to order other ingredients online I'll suggest other suppliers via email if you want them. Inexpensive Fragrance Oils I suggest this company I use them frequently. You don't need to buy large amounts to get a nice price break. Just a few scents are not skin safe so look. http://www.thecandlesource.com/id1.html I would suggest buying several Two 1 oz bottles (total 2 oz) or a 4 oz bottle of the scents you want to use depending on how many products your going to use with them and how many will be at your party. You do add your own shipping to your order so you can base your order on the shipping cost. On this link they tell you what will fit into your shipping option. http://www.thecandlesource.com/catalog/c33_p1.html
