Are you sexually active with your BF, could it be just a plot to get him laid.

You know people on anti depressants are always going to be on them for life, and statically will end their own life in their 30's or 40's.

I think at this point you should be more concerned about what you want, do you want a codependent BF for the rest of his life for an indeterminate amount of time.

The question isn't so much can you handle that but do you want to.

We all have this romantic notion that they are worth it, but as the years go by we end up hating them and never remember what it was we/you fell in love with.

Do you wish to end your relationship now or later as he sucks the life blood out of you and makes you become cynical of another.

I'd start off with, "Your sister told me you are thinking of suicide, what's bothering you so much"? If they don't want to talk about it, don't press them, just let them know that you are there if they ever need to talk. Then just watch their behaviors. If they start acting like "whoa is me", and lack a desire to do anything; then the depression may be getting heavier. Then you may need to step the game up and force the issue. You may eventually have to get professional help if it gets too bad. Who knows though, there may not be anything wrong, and they may have said it the time through over-reaction or to have dramatic effect.

Don't let on that you know about it if you tell him, it will freak him out and speed up the process. Become even more involved in his life if possible and constantly remind him how much he means to you, give him something to live for. If his behavior has not changed within a month or two, involve the police/ other types of authorities.

As your sister said try talking to him about it. i know its hard to start a conversation about these matters. the best thing to do is try have a romantic evening have a nice meal and maybe share a bottle of wine then just start talking then slip in to the conversation have you been feeling stressed lately. if he says yes then he might open up to you.then try to get him to see a dr for some help he/she may be able to give him a course of meds to try kick start back to happiness. he obviously wants some sort of help because hes talked about it. someone who is feeling very suicidal usually wont tell anyone they will just do..good luck suga

Sometimes stress can be so overwhelming that a person feels the only way to make the pain stop, is to end their life.

I don't know anything about him, but if drugs or alcohol is involved, it just makes it worse.

I would start by telling how important he is to you, and ask if he is worried about anything.

nbasically, listen to what he has to say.

most depressed people need someone to simply listen--so they can get out their anxiety and fear.

If he threatens it you call the police (999).

Otherwise, you have no direct power, other than to encourage him to see his GP.
