How long do hot dogs stay good once you open the package and put it in the fridge?
I have a pack of Hebrew National hot dogs that I opened on Friday and the last 3 dogs are still sitting in the fridge. Is it safe to cook them on the grill and eat?

I would say not past the expiration date cuz they do expire. And make sure you keep em sealed in a plastic ziploc so it stays fresh and doesnt dry out. My brothers do that all the time at home.

Once the package is opened you should eat them within a few days. Meat usually lasts 3 days in fridge, but hot dogs have a lot of preservatives so probably they last longer. If they get slimy or smell funky get rid of them. Good until 12/1/08 is before the package is opened. I keep hot dogs in the freezer, take a few out as needed.

Yes, they should be fine. An opened properly re-wrapped package of hot dogs should be OK for 5 or 6 days.

I had some unopened ones that were 2 months expired, they smelled fine, but I didn't eat them. I used them for fishing bait. Catfish seem to love them and the think skin of the NH Dogs help them stay on the hook.

They were never good. But since you insist, the USDA says one week in an opened package:
"Food Safety Guidelines
The same general food safety guidelines apply to hot dogs as to all perishable products — "Keep hot food hot and cold food cold."
When you leave the grocery store with hot dogs, head straight home and refrigerate or freeze them immediately. If there is no product date, hot dogs can be safely stored in the unopened package for 2 weeks in the refrigerator; once opened, only 1 week. For maximum quality, freeze hot dogs no longer than 1 or 2 months. And, of course, never leave hot dogs at room temperature for more than 2 hours and no more than 1 hour when the temperature goes above 90 °F. "

They should be fine. Just check to see if they are slimy or smell funny. In the future, just freeze them.
