Why do people find sex and sexuality so hard to talk about ?

It seems that most people are either embarrassed or reluctant to talk openly about sex - THE most natural event for us humans.

Well personally, I'm 15, and I can talk about sex or sexuality without an problem whatsoever. I've had all my sex education lessons through school and everybody no longer embarrassed about talking about it. In fact they constantly make jokes and assumptions about sex all the time at school.

I think younger or older people are reluctant to talk about sex is because it involves body parts that are considered to be 'private' areas which honestly I just think is stupid. We were born naked, the human species started off naked why should we hide it? But we invented clothes blahblahblah and now it's technically illegal to streak. Another reason is because some people find the idea of talking about our body parts disgusting and therefore aren't interested in sexual intercourse so they find the whole concept embarrassing to discuss. I find sex pretty interesting to be quite honest not that I've had it. Too young. :)

Who do you mean by people? You are generalising. I have no problems talking about sex/relationships etc but then I do so professionally. I find until we stop abbreviating and using silly names for the act ( Bonking/shafting/jigajig) and using names for genitalia we will not ever talk openly about sex.

If you mean however, making love with someone you love, that is private, and not a topic for conversation in the general sense of the word.

Considering the rise in teenage pregnancy when contraception is free, we are not talking about sex and the consequences enough.

If you're talking about teenagers, than it's because we all know, we aren't really supposed to do it, so we're embarrassed, because we don't want to tell the wrong person, and have it get around to our parents, or whoever. Plus, your sex life, should be privat...

Im totally comfortable talking about sex and sexuality, unlike my friends.

Its a great weapon when they're annoying me actually, if they're acting cocky I can just start telling them all about last night..
