Can Seroquel cause anxiety / social anxiety?
I've been on Seroquel and Lamictal for two years now. For the past few months, I've been beset by terrible anxiety. Last week, I had to leave a social gathering because I was about to have a panic attack. It was very embarrassing. This is very, very distressing for obvious reasons. Could either or both of these drugs be responsible for this, or am I assuming a connection that doesn't exist?

I have been on Effexor for a few years now. I suffered from Social Anxiety (didn't leave my house for over a year.) Effexor has NOT caused me to gain any weight. My over-eating has. ;) And it started working in about 2 weeks for me. I can tell you that you ABSOLUTELY MUST take your medication every day. The withdrawl process is terrible. Do not quit taking the medication until your doctor has told you that you can. They will usually take you off gradually. My life is nothing like it was before. I don't feel the need to take my "emergency" meds anymore, such as Lorazepam. My sex drive took a dive, but my sleeping patterns were much better after a month of usage. GOOD LUCK! Its unlikely that either Seroquel or Lamictal is causing that anxiety. The anxiety is understandably distressing though and, if it were me, I'd consult with a mental health professional or doctor to address it.

Panic attacks may happen at anytime without any indication that something is wrong. The highly charged attack is an indication of extreme anxiety, and the symptoms are extremely serious to the sufferer.
Anxiety feels like a heart attack or the prelude to one for the panic attack victim. Even those who have experienced panic attacks before may believe they are facing death each time they have a new attack.
Without warning, a panic disorder victim is thrown into a frenzy of uncontrollable fear. This is accompanied by a combination of symptoms such as rapid breathing and heart rate, dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness, chills or hot flashes, and numbness or tingling of the hands. Chest pains and breathing difficulties are other ways that a victim is affected.

seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic med, very heavy duty, look up its possible side effects
it shouldnt be taken for anxiety or panic attacks

According to doctors that drug is used to take away anxiety not give you more. The only possible side affect is weight gain.
