Microsoft has "Security Essentials". This is freeware. Works with you windows firewall. Yes it is downloaded via the internet. Link is below, when you get there, choose your operating system, type in the search box upper right, Security Essentials download. It will take you right to the center. You must choose which bit system you have. 32 or 64. Plan to have that information before you visit. Seems to work well on computers I have installed it on. Updates come just simular to Windows OS. Hope it helps.

Straight up.. ESET Smart Security is my Favourite (Not Free)
http://www.eset.com/us/home/smart-security
Then For Free Ones I'd Sugest..
Avast AntiVirus -> http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000...
Malwarebytes -> http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware...
& Comodo Firewall -> http://download.cnet.com/Comodo-Firewall/3000-1043...
ONLY The Firewall is Comodo (Their Antivirus sucks)
Hope it helps :)
