why is my fire fox browser eating up so?
much memory, or at least that is what my norton program is telling me.

Firefox has a small problem where it doesn't free all of the memory it uses. It's only a tiny amount that gets leaked, but if you leave the browser open for days or weeks at a time, it adds up. Just close the browser and re-open it again.
