How do you get a yeast infection? How do you get rid of it?

Vaginal yeast infections are caused by Candida albicans, which are normally present in the vaginal area, but are kept in check by your body. Changes in the environment, such as the introduction of semen, injury, allergic reactions to products, elevated sugar levels, hormonal fluxes, increased pH, and reductions in the populations of good bacteria that are normally present, antibiotics, tight clothing, weakened immune system, can cause them to take over.

Eat a healthy diet (not a lot of sugar), wear loose fitting clothing, keep the area dry, don't douche, wash the vaginal and anal area with warm water, avoid harsh soaps.

If you experience frequent infections you probably need to seriously change your diet. There is a lot of information about yeast fighting diets.

Also, keep in mind that many women misdiagnose themselves with yeast infections, when it's actually something else.
