What happened to the search companion in Windows?
You know, the little dog that would help you search file folders for keywords, or based on size, or date?
I cannot figure out how to do the more advanced searches in the new Windows. Did they get rid of the search companion and all the neat features?

I want that same feature in the new windows...where did they hide it or what did they replace it with?
Well that is a bummer. Good thing for Google desktop search which still has advanced search options without the mumbo jumbo. (what comes up when I use the windows-F option in the link).
How on earth was the search assistant annoying? He only came up when you did a search and asked for him. He was an invaluable tool in my data management, enabling me to find specific files with a few keystrokes. The new search options are not nearly as efficient, and I still cannot get it to do a word search IN the document, but can with Google. :(

That puppy is a goner. The new search is a bit more compliated to use but WAY more powerful. Don't get intimidated by all the options. Just use the ones you really need and your brain will pick up on kind: and type: and the others you use most.

You are the first person I have heard of that would want that annoying little thing running. Microsoft finally came to their senses and permanently got rid of it with Vista and later Windows 7. It served no real purpose other than to be extremely annoying. When you type into the search box in Vista or 7, you are already doing an advanced search.
