Script for IP address update?
Hello,
I need to know if its possible to write a shell script or something that would send updates about the servers IP address to a location like a website.
I took some shell scripting for my degree but never really enjoyed development and stuff. I am more drawn to support.
Its for a linux ventrilo server. We are too cheap to rent a server.

Well I'm not sure if this is entirely helpful but what you're asking to do is almost exactly what any Dynamic DNS service does. I'm not sure if you're wanting to watch the server's private IP address or public IP address. But If you've ever looked into DynDNS then you'll know that you typically have to install a client utility, or script, that will watch your public IP address and whenever it changes it'll send a notification to the DynDNS service to update it's records of the new IP address. So...very close to what you're trying to do anyway. If you were looking for the script itself then maybe you could see if there are any open source DynDNS scripts available that you might be able to modify.
Good luck

Is it possible to have the desktops connect with the server? not sure what utility or service you're offering, so i'm no longer able to truly provide you particular suggestion. you are going to be able to desire to objective DynDNS on the desktops, which might enable them to have an FQDN which would be as much as date whilst/if the IP changes. fairly, with out understanding what you attempt to do i'm no longer able to truly furnish the final answer.
