I am seeing double images and wondering why?

Hi, I'm seeing double. I noticed it a day, maybe two ago. I have an astigmatism. (not sure if that's spelled right but it's where your eye is shaped like a football rather than a basketball. At least thats what my doctor told me a few years back) It's in my right eye which seems to be the eye that is causing the problem. I am 19, and almost never wear my glasses because my vision is really not that bad. I read somewhere that drinking alcohol can cause double sited-ness. I do drink pretty often but it lasts even after I'm sober. I only notice it when I lean my head to the right and look at something pretty close but it's really bad then. I can barely watch movies at home now.

So after this ridiculously long speech I was wondering what the possible causes of my double sightedness are and if it's possible to treat it. Also, are there any treatments for a "wandering eye"? Because thats how I feel. Like one eye is not doing what I want it to. Im making an appointment with my doctor but would like a general opinion. :)

Update:

FYI

I work a desk job and therefore look at a computer screen all day. Could that be a cause?

Any sudden onset of double vision needs to be investigated immediately. You need to book an appointment to see your doctor or optician today.

There are a number of causes. Most of them are nothing to worry about, but there are a few serious things that can cause sudden onset of double vision. This can include things like raised pressure in the brain, optic neuritis or any other form of damage to the nerves that supply the eye in order to allow eye movement.

This is the reason why it needs to be investigated promptly, in order to eliminate these things as a possible cause

are you meaning when your eyes start to cross, or you see like a double outline of something? if yo're talking about a double outline, then what is happening is the color receptors in your eyes have gotten used to seeing one specific color, and when you look away, it shows you something of a "negative" of that color. for instance. looking at red for a long time, then at a white wall will show you a green shape. looking at blue will show you yellow. or something like that, i'm saying this from memory, i'm not sitting here staring at different colors just to tell you which is which... try it sometime
