Help! My computer wont respond to me inserting a disc!?

So I insert a game (the sims 2) to install and when the installer doesn't pop up immediately I go to my computer and click the little disc icon (DVD rw drive F) which should work but instead it asks me to insert a disc and pops open the little thing where you insert the disc, but it already has a disc in it. I'm not sure whats causing this but when I insert the disc it makes these light tapping noises and I dont think it should be doing that. Any idea how to fix this? ps, I have an HP Dv4 laptop if it makes any difference and I looked online and it said that my computer was fit to run the game. Im not sure whats happening!
