The press and politicians have always cuddled up to each other which is good for them but incredibly bad for the public; essentially these two powers should be keeping each other in check but instead become nothing more than whore and whoremaster (the roles reversing to suit the need)

To a certain extent yes, but its weakening, times are changing, technology namely the internet is changing the way people (mainly young people, under 30s) access not only their news but a whole range of things from entertainment to gaming to News to shopping, that's what this is all about, its about the technology and what its capable of.
The internet as it is at the moment is a liberating experience compared to the tabloid press, you can pick and choose what you want when you want as you want but most importantly from where you want, and that is what this is all about, how long would it have been before NI or another company like it would have moved into the telecommunications industry, as an ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Once they have got a foothold into that market everything would have been plain sailing, they could control everything from what you read online, from what you played online, from what you bought online, but most importantly, from where you got it online.
This is nothing new, it has been tried before, some companies offered what's called a limited internet service, where you were limited as to what sites you could access, it failed because other companies offered full internet access.
That idea as far as I can see has now for the time being been scuppered, but for how long because there will always be another who try to limit your freedom.
So be on your guard because with the internet you have freedoms that other people don't like you having, because with these freedoms your much harder to control and to keep in check.
Long live freedom, liberty and democracy, for without em we are nothing but a number to be passed over, ignored and exploited.
