Are Dell XPS Laptops any better or tougher or more rugged than Inspirons?
I'm looking for a new laptop. My old Inspiron was pretty rugged, but the new ones look a little cheezy, not as rugged. I notice that the XPS are more expensive than the Inspirons - do you think they're tougher or more durable? This is for a student who will be dragging it everywhere in a backpack, so it's got to be able to take a bit of a pounding.

the XPS is more expensive because of the hardware properties, not because it's more rugged. I have an xps 1640. it's pretty tough but not as tough as I would like it to be. you are correct. the inspiron is more cheesy and not as durable.
however if you want something very durable get a lenovo thinkpad. they are rated to be the toughest consumer grade notebooks.
even pouring water trough the keyboard would not break it unless you drop the whole thing in water.

Just get an Acer. Very strong and durable. I use Aspire 5336 and Im also a student.
