Can the Attorney General's office keep me from getting financial aid?
Okay, so I went to school last fall and i had to drop my classes due to a problem with my financial aid. I ended up owing the school around 1500 after books and all. I couldn't pay it right away, so the college sent my account to the Ohio Attorney General's Office and wont let me register until I pay it. I am planning on paying it in the fall, but I also need to be able to continue going to school and can't do that without the grants from financial aid. I am wondering if I choose to go to a different school nearby in the fall, If I will still be able to register there and get financial aid through the government, or if owing the state affects that? Thanks alot!
Also, I live close to another college in a different state, so if going to a different state for school would be a better option, let me know!

Financial Aid is federal. You don't just owe money to the school, you owe it to the federal government. The government paid your school and when you dropped your classes, the school had to pay it back. So they lost money. The federal and state government will not give you any more financial aid until you are in good-standing. You must not owe the school any more than $200 or you cannot receive financial aid in a future semester. Going to a different college or in a different state will not matter because it is federal. You need to pay off your debts and then you can receive more financial aid and finish off your degree. In the future, if there is a problem with your financial aid, get it fixed before the drop/add period ends, that way you can drop your classes free and clear without owing them any money.

you won't be able to get financial aid (at any school, in any state) until you pay off your account.
Yes, they will stop you.. so you are going to have to 'figure out a way to go to school without fin aid" because it's the ONLY way you are going to be able to do it. lol
