Should I change the transmission fluid on my 2000 dodge stratus?
Ok so my Dodge Stratus has 109,000 miles on it and the transmission fluid has never been changed on it. I was thinking of taking it to a shop so they can flush it out and put new tranny fluid, but then I did some research and I read that if it has never been changed since it has 109,000 miles that it might do more harm than damage.

First, take a look at the fluid you have. If it doesn't look burned or discolored, consider yourself to have dodged (so to speak) a bullet.
You want to replace this stuff with either genuine Chrysler ATF+4, or one of the third-party brands that meets Chrysler ATF+4 specs. (Your generic Dexrons and Mercons and such will not work.) There are plenty of horror stories about transmissions that failed right after a flush; I am persuaded generally that they were going to fail shortly anyway, but if it's my money on the line, I'm not taking that chance.
And don't go 100k miles without a fluid change next time. 40-50 is pushing it.

Change it - how could changing the fluid damage it? If there is damage, there is damage. New fluid won't make matters worse. If you are referring to the method of change (power flush), ask the mechanic if that can stress a transmission on the edge.
